European League
Having retained the English Premier League title Herne Bay United seniors will once again be competing in the European League for the 2008/9 season. This league has clubs from among the national champions of each country, the current holders of the Champions' League and the winner and runner-up of the CERS Cup 2007/8. As well as Herne Bay United the following teams will also be competing:
- FC Barcelona (Spain)
- FC Porto (Portugal)
- Reus Deportiu (Spain)
- Bassano Hockey (Italy)
- Follonica Hockey (Italy)
- Igualada HC (Spain)
- HC Liceo (Spain)
- OC Barcelos (Portugal)
- C Pati Vic (Spain)
- C Esportiu Noia (Spain)
- C Pati Vilanova (Spain)
- CP Tenerife (Spain)
- AS Valdagno (Italy)
- ERG Iserlohn (Germany)
- HC Quevert (France)
The group matches (three at home and three away) will take place on October 18, November 15, December 13, January 17, February 14 and March 14 with the finals on April 30 and May 3.
Our first match is at home to C Pati Tenerife, followed by three away matches (Bassano Hockey, Reus Deportiu and C Pati Tenerife) before the action returns to the Pier in February against Bassano Hockey and in March against Reus Deportiu.
Fixtures and Results
The draw for the group stages took place on 26 July. Group A is headed by FC Barcelona, Group B by FC Porto, Group C by Reus Deportiu and Group D by Follonica Hockey. Herne Bay United were drawn in Group C along with Reus Deportiu, CP Tenerife and Bassano Hockey. The full fixtures and results for all four groups is shown below.

Saturday 18 October
Saturday 18 October sees CP Tenerife visiting the pier for the first group match of this season's European League campaign. Doors open as 7pm and a licensed bar will also be open. The pre-match entertainment starts at 7.30pm with a game between some of United's younger players. This will be followed by a display from some of the club's artistic skaters who will also perform at half time. The main match starts at 8.30pm.
Tickets are now available at the Pier price £4 for adults and £2.50 for children. There are discounts available if you buy tickets for all three matches at £10 for adults and £6 for children.
